On 3 June 1968, Factory member Valerie Solanas shot Andy Warhol. Solanas’ extreme feminist attitude and Warhol’s eccentric entourage were part of the inspiration for Gender, a gothic comedy in which Valerie, a freaky plastic surgeon, wants to perform an operation on the very weird Desiré.
